His context and demeanor is the exact way professors who discriminate against students with disabilities have acted since colleges and universities have taken a more proactive stance on advocating for students with disabilities. Trying to invalidate students with disabilities by calling them "real disabilities" makes you sound like a cunt, and the type of professor that no student likes. How a person learns and absorbs information is completely unique to that individual. Professor has an issue with any of that, contact your handler at the disability services and that Professor will be told to kick rocks by another person. are all accommodations that are regularly granted and the professor has zero say in it. Testing length, location, time of day, recording lectures, transcripts of notes, aids, listening to music while taking a test or noise canceling headphones, etc. The professors have zero say in what accommodations are granted. Those offices will work with you, and basically anything is on the table as far accommodation goes. If you have a documented disability, go to your disability services office and schedule an appointment. If you feel you have a real disability, then you can work with disability services, but even then being able to record classes is not a common accommodation. Work on your note-taking skills, and try to get away from writing down every word mentioned in class. I would not ask about recording lectures. Most of us will see a request to record lectures as a sign of laziness, and not understanding the point of taking notes in class. Supplement your in-class notes with notes you take on the readings. Make notes for yourself about things you are not sure on, so that you can ask a question during class or during office hours. Write down key terms/equations/concepts and what they mean. Instead, notes should supplement the other course resources (readings, textbooks, handouts, etc). Notes from lecture should not be a transcript. You should not be looking to write down every word.
